A small suggestion to help ca$h-$trapped Phoenix

The daily reports that just seven months after Phoenix made its largest budget cuts in history, City Manager Frank Fairbanks has informed City Council members that the scalpel may be brought out yet again.

Fairbanks told the council Phoenix could face a budget shortfall of $65 million to $95 million in the middle of the current fiscal year, since Phoenix — like most Valley cities — continues to take in fewer sales-tax dollars than expected.

Mayor Philly Gordon is always taking his show on the road — most recently hobbing and nobbing in New York City with Mayor Michael Bloomberg and a spate of minor celebrities in Times Square.  He makes frequent trips to Washington, D.C. and to his favorite, far-away perch: Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

How about City Manager Fairbanks calling in Philly’s chits with regard to travel, meals and lodging?  There could be a significant savings there. He has a job to do here in Phoenix, after all.  Stick around and go to the office, Philly. That’s what you’re getting paid the big bucks for.
